Sudoku Variants Series (051) - Disjoint Groups

(Published on 18. November 2014, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every Tuesday. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Disjoint Groups
Place the digits from 1 tot 9 in every row, column and 3x3-block. No digit can appear in the same position in different 3x3-blocks.

Solve online in F-Puzzles (thx Nick Smirnov!)

Solution code: Row 8, followed by column 7.

I was about to write about how happy I was to survive a puzzle with the most disgusting constraint known to man, but of course I failed it. Will try again later!
Edit: happy to get past this one XD

Reply: Well done, and that's fun to read! I am not so much a fan too of 'global' constraints like this one, where placing a digit in one area influences a possibility in a whole different area. The same for diagonal and windoku. In all cases the focus must be in all directions. I am much more a fan of local constraints, with consecutive, kropki and XV as favorites, beside math oriented variants. :)
