LMI-Überbleibsel - Hot/Cold Thermometer Sudoku

(Published on 15. March 2013, 12:00 by Richard)

Logic Masters India hosts a sudoku contest every month. I had the honor to prepare the puzzles for the coming contest. It will be held from 23 till 25 March 2013. It will be called "Variations to Variants"; A set of 14 sudoku variants, two per page. I have made a variation to seven more or less known variants. Almost all variants are published here in the portal earlier by me.

As always the case after making puzzles for a contest, I had a few unused puzzles and I would like to share them here in the portal. At the same time, I can make same extra advertisement for the contest. Participation is free, only a registration at LMI is necessary. You can solve the puzzles whenever you like in the weekend. After downloading the .pdf-file you have two hours time to submit your solutions. You can find the instruction booklet here.

Hot/Cold Thermometer Sudoku
Place the digits from 1 to 9 in each row, column and 3x3-block. From the bulb to both ends the digits in each thermometer-shaped region should be either in increasing or decreasing order. The order is the same in both directions.

Solve online in F-Puzzles or CtC-app (thx Nick Smirnov!)

Instruction clarification.

... sodass die Knotenpunkte ein Maximum oder ein Minimum bilden.

Vorschlag: Für jedes Thermometer gilt:
Die Ziffern fallen in beide Richtungen oder sie steigen in beide Richtungen.

The power of this new type of puzzle is, of course, that the increasing/decreasing of digits has to be the same in both directions. It is also the fun part of this puzzle. It gives helpful information that makes this puzzle nicely solvable. But, looking to the questions, this rule is not clear. So I have changed the English text. Any suggestions for the German text?

@RALehrer: this is a rule. I hoped to make this clear by the instructions, but it is not?

@Rollo: 13542 wäre richtig, bzw. 98236 wäre auch gültig. Die Knoten bilden immer Maxima bzw. Minima.

Nö, ises nich. Ist 13579 oder 13542 richtig?

on 15. March 2013, 12:41 by Richard
@Luigi: I thought that was fixed by using the words 'zu beiden enden'.
